Visakha Container Terminal Pvt. Ltd., manages and operates a container terminal under the aegis of Visakhapatnam Port Trust under BOT basis. Located in centre of India’s East Coast and closest to the Malacca Straits, VCT is an ideal gateway for container traffic from states of AP, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh & West Bengal.

Volume

2019 was a turbulent year for VCT, with a total throughput of 494390 TEUs at the terminal, an increase of 13%. In July 2019, a record breaking 46065 TEUs were processed. In the same month, our CFS also set a record of 3710 TEUs. The average throughput per call has also increased from 1450 TEUs/call in 2018 to 1620 TEUs/call in 2019. During this period, the refrigeration capacity increased by 15%.

productivity

In April 2019, the terminal achieved a maximum ship movement rate of 108.7 times per hour. In December 2019, CHX’s M V. The berth movement rate of Sydney Trader reached 101.6 times per hour. Similarly, in November, M. provided CCG services V. On Neyyar, we achieved the highest throughput/call volume of 3457 TEUs.

connectivity

VCT has become Nepal’s key gateway, handling a record 3819 TEUs in September 2019. In December, it set a new high by managing 47 rakes and 6830 standard containers, making significant strides in railway container operations.

Kandela International Container Terminal (KICT) achieved record growth in 2018 compared to 2017, and strong growth in 2019. While addressing challenges such as congestion outside the terminal gates, limited equipment, and tidal restrictions, operational efficiency has also been significantly improved, and ships can be quickly dispatched.

Volume

KICT’s sales experienced significant growth in 2019, with throughput rising by 98% to 410,924 TEUs compared to 2018. A notable achievement was the shift in customer preference, as nearly 75% of coastal cargo from the Morby, Rajkot, and Ahmedabad belts now moves through Kandla. The terminal processes an average of nearly 30,000 TEUs of coastal cargo monthly, marking a strong position in the coastal transportation market.

productivity

Despite working within limited space and equipment, the terminal achieved impressive operational results, processing 51,482 TEUs in December 2019 with just 4 RMQCs, 4 RTGCs, and 6 reach stackers. KICT Engineering maintained a 73% on-time performance rate, with delays under 15 minutes for most ships. Additionally, the localization of OEM spare parts helped reduce costs. These successes are attributed to the dedication and hard work of the terminal’s staff.

connectivity

In 2019, the terminal expanded its services by partnering with International Cargo Terminal and Railway Infrastructure Private Limited Company (ICTRIPL) to facilitate train connections between the National Capital Region (NCR) and various inland container depots (ICDs) in Punjab. Additionally, it committed to weekly rail services from KICT to all Concor-operated ICDs, enhancing connectivity and supporting inland logistics.
